Getting around

Keyboard and screen readers

Every control can be reached and used from the keyboard, shows where the focus is, and has a name a screen reader reads out.

  • Tab and Shift+Tab move through the menus, the picture cards, the settings and the export buttons; the focused control has a coloured ring.
  • Enter or Space presses a button or picks a card. In the menu bar, the arrow keys move through a menu and Escape closes it. Escape also closes dialogs, and the focus goes back to where it was.
  • Number fields take Up and Down (with Shift for ten steps) and accept typed values with units, such as 3 mm, 1/8 in or 40*2.
  • Sections fold and unfold with Enter on their title. Each ? button opens that section's help.
  • Every button, field and card has a name for screen readers, and status messages (saved, exported, nesting) are announced.
  • The 3D view takes T, F, L and P for its views once it has the focus; the same model is on the sheet view for screen-reader users.
