Getting around
- Make your first cut
Pick a product and a preset, adjust it, check it and export an SVG for your laser.
- Presets and your own presets
Every product starts from a gallery of ready designs; save your own settings as presets too.
- AI designer
Describe a product or add a photo of one, and the AI designer sets up the closest HingeLab product for you to fine-tune and cut.
- AI Studio
Make pictures from words, clean up photos, prepare engravings and cut-ready outlines, and ask the assistant, all inside a Studio project.
- 3D Assembly in Studio
Send the parts on your Studio sheet to 3D, see them put together, fix the joints, adjust parts and go back to the drawing.
- CorelDRAW-style tools in Studio
3-point shapes, Smart Drawing, Crop, Virtual Segment Delete, Contour, Create Boundary, node alignment and the Distort effect.
- Undo, redo and reset
Every change can be undone. Reset a field, a section or the whole design back to its defaults.
- Material, thickness and kerf
Pick a material preset, then measure your real sheet thickness and your laser's kerf.
- Sheet size and Fit to sheets
Set your laser bed or sheet, then let HingeLab scale the design to fit one sheet, a set number of sheets, or use as many as needed.
- The 3D view
See the assembled design in 3D, explode it, or lay every part flat as it will be cut.
- Checks and Auto-fix
Each product checks your design as you edit. Problems come with buttons that fix them; Auto-fix all applies the safe fixes in one step.
- Layers and export
Each kind of cut has its own coloured layer, so your laser software can give it its own speed and power.
- Job estimate: length, time and cost
How long the cuts are, how much is engraved, how long the job takes on your machine and what the material costs.
- Batch personalisation (ZIP)
Make one set of files per name, with optional dates and photos, downloaded together as a ZIP.
- Listing photos
Save a PNG of the 3D model at a chosen angle and background, sized for Etsy or Instagram.
- Share links and remixing
Send a design as a link: it opens read-only, and Remix makes it the other person's design.
- Project files (.oclc)
Back up a design, or move it to another computer, with its pictures and uploaded fonts inside.
- Community gallery
Publish a design with a preview so others can open and remix it (when the gallery is open).
- Free and Pro features
Which features may need the Pro plan, and how you will know before you start.
- Keyboard shortcuts
Move round the sheet, undo, save and export from the keyboard.
- Keyboard and screen readers
Every control can be reached and used from the keyboard, shows where the focus is, and has a name a screen reader reads out.
- Phones and tablets
On a tablet the full editor works by touch; on a phone the generators open in a simple three-step flow.
- Joints and fit
Tabs on the walls fit slots in the base and lid. Set their width and how tight they fit.
Hinge Box
- Box shape and lid
Rounded, pill, polygon or cylinder; open, with a fixed lid, or with a lid that lifts off.
- Dimensions
The outside size of the box and its corner radius.
- Hinge pattern
How the living hinge is cut: the pattern, the cut style and the size of every slit and bar.
- Bend Analysis
Will the hinge bend round your corners without cracking? Bend Analysis estimates it and lists what to check.
- Lid options
A flat top wider than the box, a finger or knob hole, and the lip under a removable lid.
- Standard sizes and text under the box
Box sizes for tissues, playing cards, jewellery, gold and more, and a name or phone number engraved on the base.
- Cut-out patterns
Lattice, floral, Moroccan quatrefoil and other patterns cut right through the lid and walls.
- Dividers
Strips that split the inside of a box into compartments, locking together where they cross.
- Tips for the Hinge Box
Small things that make a living-hinge box come out right first time.
Letters
- Letters modes
Letter Box builds a box in the shape of your text; Solid cuts the letters as flat pieces; Stencil cuts them out of one sheet.
- Text and font
Type your text, pick a font, and set its size, spacing and stroke weight.
- Letter Box
Box walls that follow your letters, as a living hinge or as flat panels, with optional marquee light holes.
- Stencil
Letters cut out of one sheet, with bridges that hold the centres in place.
- Solid letters
Each letter as a flat piece; Weld dots joins dots and accents to their word.
- Letters analysis
The size, parts and bend zones of your letters, and what to check before cutting.
- Tips for Letters
Getting clean letters, strong boxes and stencils that hold together.
Parametric
- Source model
What gets sliced: a library model, your own mesh, a photo, text, or a formula.
- Shape buttons
Pick a shape and set its sliders instead of typing a formula.
- Slicing method
How the model becomes flat parts: parallel fins, stacked layers, a waffle, radial fins or fins along a curve.
- Material and sheets
The material, its grain, and the sheets the parts are packed on.
- Parametric joints
Tabs, slots, dowels and half-laps that hold the parts together.
- Quality
How smooth the outlines are and which tiny details are dropped.
- Slice Inspector
Step through the parts one by one: their outline, size, cut length and where they sit.
- Parametric analysis
Parts, sheets, cut time and fidelity, with what to check and how to fix it.
- Tips for Parametric
Getting sculptures that slice cleanly and go together easily.
Clock
- Clock generator
The Clock generator draws a wall or desk clock to fit a standard quartz movement: the face, hour markers, hands with the right holes, a hanger and an optional stand. Faces come round, square, polygonal, sunburst, gear, scalloped, flower, heart, cloud or any outline you paste.
- Tips for the clock generator
Ring layers give depth: glue the ring onto the back plate, and cut the markers through the ring so the back plate shows behind them.
Puzzle
- Puzzle generator
The Puzzle generator cuts a jigsaw from a rectangle, circle, oval, heart, hexagon, cloud, house, arch, shield or any closed outline, with classic, kids, wavy or straight cuts, an optional frame or tray, and a picture, text or piece numbers engraved on top.
- Tips for the puzzle generator
3 mm plywood or MDF works well; keep pieces at least 15 mm across and tab necks wider than the material is thick.
QR Code
- QR Code generator
The QR Code generator makes scannable plates: keychains, table signs, coasters, Wi-Fi cards, business cards and paint stencils. It encodes web addresses, text, Wi-Fi logins, contact cards, emails, text messages and phone numbers in the standard formats phones understand.
- Tips for the qr code generator
Scan the screen before you cut: hold a phone up to the canvas; if it reads there, the plate will read too.
Boxes
- Boxes generator
The Boxes generator makes classic laser-cut pieces that slot together: finger-jointed boxes with a closed, open, lift-off, sliding, pin-hinged or inset lid, trays with half-lap dividers (with a lid they make tea and card boxes), drawer boxes with up to four drawers, hexagon boxes, divider inserts for boxes you already have, money boxes, stacking trays, book boxes with a living-hinge spine, desk signs, three-layer photo frames, phone and tablet stands, key holders and bird houses.
- Tips for the boxes generator
Fingers about two to three times the material thickness look right and stay strong.
Cake Topper
- Cake Topper generator
The Cake Topper generator turns a few words into a topper ready to cut: script letters welded into one piece, a silhouette with the text engraved, mirror letters layered on a backing, or text engraved on a shaped plate. Add a motif (balloons, rings, a crescent, stars and many more) and sticks with pointed tips.
- Tips for the cake topper generator
Mirror acrylic scratches easily: leave its film on while cutting and peel it after.
Key Holder
- Key Holder generator
The Key Holder generator makes a wall board for keys, leads, bags or mugs: any of 18 board shapes, text and a motif engraved, scored or raised in a second material, and a row of hooks.
- Tips for the key holder generator
Cut hooks from 4 to 6 mm plywood for heavy bunches; 3 mm hooks suit single keys.
Sign
- Sign generator
The Sign generator makes wall, door, shop and desk signs in wood, acrylic or both: text and a motif engraved or scored on a shaped board, letters from a second material layered on top, the word cut out on its own, letters inlaid flush in a contrasting material, a neon-look acrylic piece with glowing engraved outlines, or a paint stencil whose bridges hold the middles of the letters.
- Tips for the sign generator
For inlays, use the same thickness for both materials and a bold font; the kerf makes the letters press in snugly.
Table Numbers
- Table Numbers generator
The Table Numbers generator makes a whole set at once: number the tables from one value to another, or type a list of table names, and every plate comes out the same size in one file.
- Tips for the table numbers generator
Make one spare of the most-used numbers in case one gets knocked over.
Trophy
- Trophy generator
The Trophy generator makes awards that stand up: an emblem (star, cup, shield, medal, flame, laurel wreath, any motif from the library or your own SVG outline), an optional stem and name plate with the award, the winner and the year, all in one upright piece that slots into a stepped base of one to three tiers.
- Tips for the trophy generator
For mirror or clear acrylic figures, a clearance of 0.05 mm gives a tight push fit; plywood likes 0.1 to 0.15 mm.
Shadow Box
- Shadow Box generator
The Shadow Box generator makes layered 3D paper-cut art: a stack of frames with the same outline whose geometric cut-outs grow from the back layer to the front one, so the finished piece looks deep when the layers are stacked with foam tape or spacer frames between them.
- Tips for the shadow box generator
Cut each layer from a different shade of card; the Colours section previews the shading from back to front.
Paper Box
- Paper Box generator
The Paper Box generator makes folding cartons and gift boxes from card or board: reverse and straight tuck-end cartons, mailer boxes with rolled walls and a front tuck, and two-piece boxes whose lid slides over the base.
- Tips for the paper box generator
Score card before folding: a laser at low power, or a cutter's scoring stylus. Fold every crease back and forth once.
