Hinge Box

Tips for the Hinge Box

Small things that make a living-hinge box come out right first time.

  • Measure your sheet with calipers and enter the real thickness before anything else.
  • Cut the bend test strip first, in the same sheet. If it cracks, use Auto-fit or the fixes in Bend Analysis.
  • Cut the green slots first, then the blue hinge, then the red outline (the SVG is already in that order).
  • Run the hinge layer a little faster or with less power than the outline to reduce charring.
  • Bend with the face veneer's grain running across the slits, and pre-flex the strip gently before assembly.
  • If the wall comes out a little long once bent, raise Stretch by 0.5 % at a time.
  • MDF is brittle: use the Relief pattern or a larger corner radius.
